A selection of images taken from around Meifford and along the line.Meifford is permanent O-16.5 home layout, which is set somewhere in Wales and traffic is predominantly slate, with daily general goods trains and the occasional passenger train, or quite often, a single carriage attached to the goods service!
From the terminus at Meifford, the line runs at a lower level out past the canal interchange to nearby Lyddiarth (imagined), or takes the steep incline in a cutting from Meifford Junction and out on the upper line to the large town of Llanfyllin.
Both lines actually converge in the off-stage fiddle yard and trains can return on either line. Control, even on this relatively small layout is DCC, using MERG home constructed units. Point control is achieved via servos, which give a very realistic slow movement.
All the buildings on Meifford have been scratch-built, which also extends to all of the windows, doors etc. The slates, seen everywhere on the layout, are real .. cut down and split in the traditional manner from roofing slates! The locomotives in use are mostly modified Smallbrook Studios bodies on Hornby chassis, apart from one Hunslet which was built from a brass kit, a SlimRails diesel body on a homemade chassis and an EDM Townshend Hook! Various goods wagons are in use plus a rake of 10 7mmnga 3-Ton slate wagons, built from kits.
