HB02 - Going Minimum Gauge (Handbook, 2nd Edition)

Published in August 2014, this Handbook contains all new material compared to the previous edition, now long out of print.

76 pages A4, perfect bound, and illustrated in colour throughout.

The term ‘Minimum Gauge’ is used to describe the narrowest gauge suitable for a practical railway. Minimum Gauge is however applied to more than just 15in (or less) gauge miniature railways. The term is used to describe other railways with a gauge under a nominal 2ft (600mm), often in smaller industrial settings.

As well as looking at the basics, e.g. track, couplings and sources of running gear, this Handbook aims to cover a wide range of modelling ideas, from straightforward projects (ideal for the beginner) through to more advanced builds, using a diverse range of materials. These builds are interesting in themselves but also incorporate useful ideas and techniques that can be utilised for other projects. The Handbook also looks at selected minimum gauge layouts (some well known) that illustrate the variety and potential of modelling minimum gauge railways.

There are also a number of photograhic surveys of prototypes to provide inspiration.
